In Memoriam – Frederick Hurd Eppenberger

                                             January 27, 2022 at age 78

Fred came into the troop in 1956 and went on to become Moose patrol leader, a Junior Assistant Scoutmaster, member of Order of the Arrow, troop bugler and a Baker.

Fred sold the very first “Seventeener” hat press. He was home for the summer from Bennington College in Vermont and was working with Dick Barnes developing the hat press when the took some on a drive to Chicago. He stopped at a State Highway Patrol office in Springfield, Illinois. He took several inside on a cold call and made the troop’s first sale.

As troop bugler, he was the one who blew “CHARGE!” on the very first Friday race to beat all the other troops to dinner at the mess hall at Camp Irondale.

Troop 17 is mighty proud of Fred Eppenberger.

Fred’s obituary may be viewed here.
