Erich Kiehl is presented Eagle
Andrew Brenner Scout of the Year
at Fall Court of Honor
The Troop Court of Honor, which was held November 7th, featured many recognitions, achievements, and awards.
The feature of the evening was Erich Kiehl receiving his Eagle Scout badge. It was awarded by St. Louis Council presenter, Mr. Robert Drummond, and was concluded with an excellent acceptance speech by Erich.

Also recognized was Andrew Brenner who was awarded a Scout statuette as the Troop Seventeen's fifty-seventh consecutive Scout of the Year.

Over thirty merit badges were presented with Anthony Scodary receiving his Life and Reid Brown and Ian Hermann receiving Star.

Mike Sullivan and his Moose Patrol were recognized as the troop's honor patrol at the recent district camporee --
(of note was that they finished #2 overall in the district).

Erich Kiehl, JASM and Philip Henderson, SPL, were awarded the troop leadership cocade in recognition of their leadership and service to the troop.

Summer Camp Dates Set
The results of the council's summer camp lottery just came in and Troop Seventeen will be camping on Busch campsite at Camp Gamble at S-F Scout Ranch.
The dates are July 14-20, 2002
It should be another great year.

Philmont Reservations Made
for 2003
Several of our adult leaders and parents (Mark Kiehl, Todd Brown, Elmer Boehm) were successful in the Philmont reservation telephone lottery and secured dates for an expedition over the fourth of July in 2003.

Mark Kiehl will be heading up the trip and reservations will be accepted for available slots as the details become available.

Ten Scouts and two leaders went in the summer of 2000 and had a great time.

Court of Honor Postponed
Due to an afternoon thunderstorm which knocked out power to the church, the scheduled troop court of honor was delayed two weeks until November 14th.

It was an unavoidable and unfortunate circumstance.

Three Seventeeners Selected
for Science Olympiad
Scouts Jaydev Mahadevan, Paul Kiehl, and William Bennett of Troop Seventeen were recently selected to be on the team representing Ladue Junior High School for this year's Science Olympiad. Some of the meets will be held out of town.

Troop Seventeen is mighty proud of these Scouts.

Seventeener Mike Barnes
to be
Jamboree Troop SPL
Life Scout Mike Barnes (Moose Patrol), will be attending the National Jamboree this summer at Fort Hill, Virginia, and was recently selected to be the SPL of his Jamboree troop.

Particularly noteworthy is the fact that he is new to the area and was selected over several older Scouts. Mike recently returned to St. Louis after living the past seven years in Salem Oregon where he was active in Scouting there.

Two of Mike's older brothers, Bobby and Tommy, were Eagle Scouts in XVII.

Troop Seventeen is mighty proud of Mike Barnes.

January Meetings Feature Aviation Merit Badge
Led by Alumni Pilots

By Buzz Courtney
January troop meetings are featuring Aviation Merit Badge led by Seventeen Alumni, Mike Harrell, a captain for United Airlines, and Rob Wunderlich, a former Marine Corps pilot and member of the Navy Blue Angels support crew.

Rob and Mike -- in their flying gear -- were both at the January 10th meeting and Rob covered the material (using videos and actual equipment) at the January 17th meeting.

Both Mike and Rob were Eagle Scouts and Senior Patrol Leaders in Troop Seventeen.

For the third week a merit badge counselor will be present to review Scouts.

Great Time on Fall Canoe Float!
By Chris Fava, Jr.
The weekend of the 16th Troop 17 went to Lesterville Missouri for a float trip. We met at Salem at 7:15 and left by 7:45. We drove a couple hours and arrived at about 10:30. From there we checked in and got on a bus to go to the water. We got on the water and on our way at 11:00

We stopped a couple of times to take breaks and go swimming. At one of these there were a lot of fish heads. This reminded some of summer camp when Anthony Scodary fell in love with a fish head named Maggie.

At 12:30 we stopped for lunch. Near-by there was a house that was playing some alright but out-dated tunes. After lunch we continued on our "journey" and got out of the water at 3:00 where we were bussed back to camp. After we dried off and changed we pretty much hung out around camp and ate snacks from the store.

We left the next day around 10:00 and got home at 12:00.
I thought this trip was very fun and exciting.
